Kandy
Kandy was the capital of Sri Lanka’s last independent highland kingdom. The Kandian kingdom lasted and flourished for more than two hundred years until it seded to Britain by treaty in 1815. Today the most beautiful city in the Island – Dalada Maligawa –temple of the sacred toothy relic of the Lord Buddha and many temple with beautiful paintings and wood carvings.
Sigiriya
A massive rock fortress built in the 5th century A.D is an enduring tribute to one man’s vision. It reminds us of ancient royal hide- away, citadel steeped in history, replete with legend, betrayal and love.
Anuradhapura
The monuments date back to 3rd C.BC 8th C. AD Sri Maha Bodhi the oldest historically documented tree in the world is found here. As per written records Anuradhapura has been made royal capital by the king Pandukabaya in 380 BC. It remained residence and Royal capital for 119 successive Singhalese kings till the year 1000 AC when it was abandoned and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa.
You will see of the most famous as well as the tallest Dagaba of Sri Lanka, remains from Palaces temples, monasteries, ceremonial baths and the temple of the holy Bo-tree.
Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa the medieval capital of Sri Lanka where art architecture, and engineering were revived into a cultural epoch, is a monument to Sri Lanka’s great renaissance. The most famous Singhalese king Parakrama Bahu the great (1153-1186) has built in the environs of Polonnaruwa on impressive irrigation system with many artificial tanks interconnected with irrigation channels.
Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa is the place for underwater delights. Ste of the famed coral gardens, hire a glass –bottomed boat or goggles and flippers and explore the fantasies under your feet.
Galle
Galle is the most important southern town with an old –world charm. Believed to “Tarshish” of the bible, its natural harbar was a famous fort in days gone by famous for its Dutch fort, lace making, embony carving and gem polishing.
Trincomalee
Trincomalee is famed for its natural harbor. Described by Admiral Lord Nelson as the finest harbor in the world when he visited aboard HMS seashore in 1770. It is ranked as the world’s 5th largest natural harbours.
Arugambay
Arugambay is the southernmost beach resort of the eastern coast. It is a very popular surfing center ranked 3rd among the best 20 beaches of the world by the British surfers association.
